One other weird thing I noticed is that when I shift into Drive, it shifts roughly.almost like it drops/bangs into gear as if the engine was idling high (but it's not.under 1000 RPM). its unsafe!!!. Next a "Service Transmission" message and the car slips into neutral and all the indicators over the shift knob illuminate. As a result, since trans is locked out of park, I have to go through back seat to release trunk latch, get out and then disconnect neg battery cable, and do the same thing to start it back up all while trans is in neutral with e-brake on. The latest issues is the transmission shift lever remains in Reverse when shifting to Park. The alternator was bad. After turning the ignition off and restarting the vehicle starts running perfectly normal. Good thing traffic wasn't going to fast I would of been dead. When the e-shifter is fully pushed forward to engage the Park position/detent, instead it is actually in Reverse. Please also check out the I moved to the far tight lane as fast as I could. You'd think MB could design it so some water dripping in wouldn't ruin it - oops, I forgot, they make a lot of money from selling these OK.so just a follow-up on my problemI ended up purchasing a used shifter (thanks to Jefferino) and installed it as per the instructions all the kind members of this forum provided me with.
